About the Project

“I conceived the Morae River Project in spring 2008 when I realized I wanted to organize my creature work the way biologists do.  I needed to put them into a context where they could evolve and shape their environment as real animals do, to try to make them as seem real as possible. I took the concept of a river and the habitats that might exist around it and am in the process of making it my own.

I doubt I could ever create the 46 million different species that I’ve estimated to live along the Morae’s banks but my effort is to represent the more notable of creatures and plant life to give you, the viewer, a sense of this world I have created and to perhaps feel that these organisms are thought out, organized, and studied.”

    Hi.
I love the idea behind your project, and the Red Tailed Mardik is a really beautiful creature – kind of half lion, half lizard. Love it!
I will be bookmarking this site and checking back to see the rest of the wildlife inhabiting the Morae River!
    Keep it up!

What process do you take to making these creature? Do you start off building on a creature that already exists? Do you mix and match or is this all just straight out of your head?

I love all of them so far can’t wait to see what happens in your world next.

      Braden,
I usually begin with writing. I like to write out what the animal’s role in the environment is, along with behaviors and physical descriptions. All of my work is influenced by observation and research of animals here on earth. Most behaviors are inspired by or taken directly from nature. Thank you for your questions and comments! :)

    Hello, Brynn

I just received your book in the mail and the art, as well as here on the site, is beautiful. As a fellow artist I love looking at the creations of another individual’s creativity. I will definitely be following you as well.

I too, have a universe I’ve been working on- projectcosmos.net. There are other sites related to the universe but that is the hub. Would it be satisfactory if I could link your site with one of mine own, and perhaps, vice versa?

I will continue to be a fan of your art and imagination- it’s very entertaining. :)

      Nathan,
I appreciate you buying the book and Im very glad to hear you enjoy it! I looked through your website (I’ll dive further into later tonight) and I’m impressed. Awesome idea with the journal! I can’t wait to get more into it. You are more than welcome to link back to The Morae River. I’m currently making a links page myself and I’ll be sure to add you to the list! Thanks again for the comment and I look forward to seeing more work from you as well! :D

I just confirmed. I learned of you and your site from your appearance on the Science…..sort of podcast. I am familiar w/ worldbuilding as a hobby because I am a D&D geek-which I am told is the worst kind.
anyway, your site is wonderful and I look forward to more surprises from our intrepid field scientist.
    regards,

a great idea with some nice art to back it up.
as far as i can tell, though, the RSS button on the main page doesn’t work.

    • admin says:

      Wesley,

Thank you very much! I hadn’t noticed the rss not working. I’ve tinkered with it a bit and it seems to be working ok now. Let me know if your still having trouble though. Thanks for the heads up! :D

  11. Hello Brynn,

Is something wrong with your mailing system? I had already entered my name some time ago, but after receiving a few messages there was silence. I almost assumed you had stopped working on the project, but checked the link regardless, only to find new entries.

I will once more enter my name in the list, but perhaps you should check whether or not it is working as intended.

    Best wishes

    Gert

      Gert,

I apologize about the confusion. I had posted in the News section that I had lost all of my mail subscriptions due to an updating error. I’m glad you re-entered it. You should be receiving updates now. I’ll be posting some updates about the project tomorrow. Hopefully they will end up in your inbox. I am subscribed to my own blog through a gmail account as well and it seems to be working.

      Thanks Gert!
